Smittie's Head
I'm the village idiot. I don't have anything to do with this pathetic little opera, I just felt like passing through.

So, a key point of the Democrats, even if they are being a little more low key about it at the moment, is getting out of the war in Iraq. Obama, Democratic front runner is on record as willing to send the US military into an ally country, against its will, to carry military actions against citizens of that country on that country's soil. In Iraq and Afghanistan, the target of the US invasion was the government of those countries. The motivation for the invasion was to protect US interests, in part, through the betterment of the citizens of those countries. Subsequent to invading Iraq and Afghanistan, the US military has respected the will of the people in electing their own government. What Obama suggests in his willingness to invade Pakistan is exactly the opposite. Mr. Obama wants to ignore and even defy a freely elected government.

When Urban Legends Happen

The urban legend about an evil gang that drugs its victims and steals their kidneys has been circulating for years. Turns out, someone in India thought that might be a good idea.

The next item on my ToDo list: Cancel all plans to travel to India.

I Miss Fred Already

In my life as a voter, I think Fred Thompson is the first candidate I actually believed in. I was early to jump on as a supporter. In this article the summary of the way in which the campaign was run and the summary of Thompson's principles which guide him politically -- Federalism, States' rights, Individual rights -- is the summary of why I really liked and believed in Fred Thompson.

I think the political process in hopelessly flawed, primarily by one overriding factor. The ideal people to run the country are unwilling to apply for the job. They understand the ramifications of sitting in the President's chair and are unwilling to subject themselves to those conditions (broad brush caveats apply).

I think Fred Thompson was one of the few that might actually be well suited to be President. I'm sorry we won't get a chance to see him in that role.

Fred Drops Out

This (registration required use BugMeNot) is a disappointment. Deprived of the chance to vote for someone I truly believe in, I am now forced to choose which candidate I dislike the least. Not a great way to choose a president.
